A PHOTOGRAPHIC TRIBUTE TO THE BELGIAN JAZZ SCENE
Life is a lot like Jazz ... it's best when you improvise.
George Ghershwin
With Big Jazz in Little Belgium, Pieter De Vries offers a visual tribute to Belgium’s jazz scene: intimate, vibrant, and deeply rooted in character.
During 2019, he documented musicians across the country, capturing both the energy of performance and the quieter moments around it. The result is a photographic portrait of a remarkable artistic community, created just before the world changed for a while.
Featuring artists ranging from Philip Catherine to Hendrik Lasure, the project brings together different generations of Belgian jazz in one visual narrative.
Big Jazz in Little Belgium(ISBN 9789463963053) was published as a limited-edition coffee table book.
The book features a curated selection of more than 150 photographs from the project and was released in an edition of 200 copies.
